Who: Lucius, Moody, Avery
Where: Diagon Alley and Flourish and Blotts
When: Friday Afternoon
Rating: R just in case

The clerk frowned. "A kneazle can be quickly housetrained. A crup takes a bit of time."

"And the snake?"

"The snake will live in its own house. I will assume you'll also be buying a glass cage for it?"

"Naturally." Lucius flipped another page of the manual, searching for a non-venomous good-looking snake. One certainly couldn't get a snake and have it be ugly. That went against logic.

"Boas are friendly," the clerk advised.

Lucius got a mental image of Tom and the boa wrapped around his slight frame. "Maybe something a bit smaller."

"Garter snakes make for good pets."

"Too small."

"A runespoo- oh, never mind. What about an anaconda?"

"Too big."

"Cobras that have been defanged? They're easy to tame and very friendly."

"Defanged? Sounds barbaric."

"It's a safety precaution."

"Naturally. Right. When of those then. And make sure it's young." A defanged cobra it was for Tom. As well as..."Kneazles are rather ugly beasts, aren't they?"

The clerk raised an eyebrow. "I never heard anyone call one ugly before."

"First time for everything. Right. Ah, crups. Back on the subject of crups. How long does it take to housetrain them?"

"Not long at all, really. Just patience."

Lucius supposed he could set some newspaper down. Judging by the articles the Daily Prophet was reporting, he doubted he'd miss anything important. "Right then. Good with boys?"

"Of course. All pets love little boys. Little girls for that matter as well."

"Right. Then a crup as well." He was spoiling the boy.

"Any particular breed?"

"Purebred. Must be friendly. Must not get too large."

"Right. I'll see what I can do. No specific breed just purebred?"

"That's what I stated."

"Very well. I'll send over the snake and the other items you chose over through delivery." Lucius had gone through the store and, with the clerk's 'expertise', had gotten enough to let the snake have a very happy home.

"I'll be back tomorrow for the crup. Do make sure it's properly leashed."

"Of course!"

Lucius paid the man and left the shoppe. Whatever happened to simple owls and rats? Why'd he get this rather insane idea to share his home with two animals?

...It'd give Tom something to talk to and play with. He wouldn't be alone anymore. He'd have company that he could handle and that would love him back unconditionally. Plus, it would teach the boy some responsibility. Speaking of which...

Lucius went into Flourish and Blotts. They had to have a few books in there for housetraining animals and the like. And he might as well pick up a few volumes of wizarding history. Tom had a lot to catch up on.

Sweet Merlin's balls, the leader was even more stupid than Moody had thought. He'd been anticipating that Brahms might be given the order to kill, and the moment the leader ducked away Moody elbowed Brahms in the ribs. As the lesser Death Eater howled and doubled over in pain, Moody Stupefied the other minor Death Eater with a lightning-quick reflex.

I may not be a youngster anymore, Moody thought with grim satisfaction, but I'm still a bloody good Auror...

Binding both Death Eater lackeys with a swift spell, Moody proceeded to unmask them. Brahms all right, and the other big stupid lunk was none other than Wesson. Well, it was going to be a long spell in Azkaban for both these chumps if Moody had his way.

Alastor turned to the wizened shopkeeper who had emerged, shaking, from behind the counter. "Alert the other Aurors by the fire, and evacuate this place. I'll stay here and guard these two until reinforcements arrive."

There'd be another long investigation that night, and Moody would relish the chance to interrogate Brahms and Wesson himself, but he'd be damned if he'd miss out on his date with Gabe the following night. After all this he deserved to be in the arms of an angel...

Malfoy had high-tailed it, and Moody didn't blame him, after what he'd just been through. If the man had any sense he'd get himself to a Healer double-quick.

Vivian was really going to enjoy the hunt for the leader of this attack. She was always the one for tracking... he'd get the description of the leader to her as soon as he could. She was, in Alastor's opinion, an even better Auror than he was, and the Ministry were fools if they were indeed making noises about retiring her...
